Welcome to the State of Link Building 2020 Report

I’m so happy to be able to share the results of our link building survey with you. We surveyed over 350 professionals across the SEO industry to get their views on where we’re at right now as an industry when it comes to building links. We then received insights on the results from over 15 industry experts. 

Combined, you have a comprehensive, industry-level view on the state of link building in 2020. So, what’s the summary?

Well, the good news is that as many of us have predicted for many years, link building is still alive and well part of the overall picture of SEO. The majority of respondents felt that not only do links still matter, but they will do for the foreseeable future. 

When it comes to techniques, respondents use a wide variety, including some tactics such as guest posting and broken link building which sometimes get a hard time from the industry. At the same time, content-led link building is very much alive and well which as an industry, is encouraging because it lends itself well to the idea that a website should deserve the links it receives. 

In terms of what the future holds, there is little doubt that Google is always looking for more signals that can help them decide which pages deserve to rank best in their results. This may mean that links become less valued in the future (most respondents were unsure about links mattering as much if we look 10+ years out) but our jobs as link builders appear to be safe for now!
